Definitions, Premisses, and Info in Trinculo Font
Special Note: Garden of Life uses a large number of specially purposed English words, often spelled slightly differently than regular, to make their specific meaning more apparent. We also use a large number of neologisms, specifically constructed for Temple use. All of this type of terminology is defined in several places on the website, here in the Garden of Life website Definitions pages, in the Articles of Organization glossary, and such. If you are viewing this page in a browser which doesn't support full current Unicode coding or if you haven't installed current free Unicode fonts, such as Code2000 version 1.171 at FontSpace or Alphabetical List of Unicode Fonts, many of the phonetic characters, diacritical marks, and symbols in these pages will not show up or will show up as boxes. Availability changes so you may have to do a search. It's a free font for personal use, so we can send you a copy if you can't find it. And the display probably won't be perfect anyway, but it's getting closer all the time. At the risk of belabouring the extremely obvious, this page is a work in progress, with quite a distance to go before it sleeps. All of these Attributions are from our perspective. We are not putting them forward as objective fact. We welcome all feedback at Defs@gardenoflifetemple.com, though we do not guarantee to process such feedback other than for ascertainable accuracy and usefulness. Thanks.

Qabala, Qabbalah ― A body of occult philosophy, doctrines, and magickal and mystical lore most often represented by certain Jewish rabbinical texts, probably originating in early Chaldean and other Mesopotamian cultures, possibly including ancient Egypt. Basically a type of Gemantria, also known as Cabala, Cabbala, Kabala and so forth.

Qimancy and Qiscopy ― When the term Qimancy is used in reference to a type of divination, it generally refers to divination using Feng Shui [unattested references to Orthoskosmeômancy as a type of divination using Feng Shui as well.

The term Qimancy is derived from the words: the Chinese 氣 (Qi) meaning breath, life-force, an active principle forming part of any living thing; and the Greek Μαντεία (Manteia), meaning divination.

Quakers ― see- The Religious Society of Friends.

Quale ― A Quality that is an independent object. Something that "has" a quality, the possessor of a Quality, often an exemplifier of that Quality. A sense-datum or feeling having its own particular quality without external meaning or reference.

Qualia ―, singular "quale" (Latin pronunciation: [ˈkwaːle]), from a Latin word meaning for "what sort" or "what kind," is a term used in philosophy to refer to subjective conscious experiences as 'raw feels'. Examples of qualia are the pain of a headache, the taste of wine, the experience of taking a recreational drug, or the perceived redness of an evening sky. Daniel Dennett writes that qualia is "an unfamiliar term for something that could not be more familiar to each of us: the ways things seem to us." Erwin Schrödinger, the famous physicist, had this counter-materialist take: "The sensation of colour cannot be accounted for by the physicist's objective picture of light-waves. Could the physiologist account for it, if he had fuller knowledge than he has of the processes in the retina and the nervous processes set up by them in the optical nerve bundles and in the brain? I do not think so."

The importance of qualia in philosophy of mind comes largely from the fact that they are seen as posing a fundamental problem for materialist explanations of the mind-body problem. Much of the debate over their importance hinges on the definition of the term that is used, as various philosophers emphasize or deny the existence of certain features of qualia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qualia

Quanta ― A particuluar measured portion of energy or mass, considered as an item in its own right, ergo: as a noun.

Quantum Entanglement ― Quantum entanglement occurs when particles such as photons, electrons, molecules as large as "buckyballs", and even small diamonds interact physically and then become separated; the type of interaction is such that each resulting member of a pair is properly described by the same quantum mechanical description (state), which is indefinite in terms of important factors such as position, momentum, spin, polarization, etc. According to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, their shared state is indefinite until measured. Quantum entanglement is a form of quantum superposition. When a measurement is made and it causes one member of such a pair to take on a definite value (e.g., clockwise spin), the other member of this entangled pair will at any subsequent time[7] be found to have taken the appropriately correlated value (e.g., counterclockwise spin). Thus, there is a correlation between the results of measurements performed on entangled pairs, and this correlation is observed even though the entangled pair may have been separated by arbitrarily large distances.

Quantum MetaPhysics ― When used in reference to a MetaPhysical Orientation of Experiential Spiritual Methodology, which is ordinarily characterized by much emphasis being placed on the idea that everything causes everything else, that all parts of any entity, physical, mental and spiritual must be considered together and that below the level of cells, and atoms, each subatomic part of anything affects the whole and reflects the whole. practices arising from positing experienced reality as the result of subatomic events and/or interactions with the assumption that the whole pattern is included in each component part. The interpretation interpolation of the viewed reality as a hologrammic resultant of subatomic events and/or interactions.

Quantum NonLocality

Quantum Physics ― A popular phrase indicating the Field of Study of the various theories which are required when Quantum Mechanics (Old and/or New), Wave Mechanics, Matrix Mechanics and other current processes are applied to Physics (A Science which offers explanations of the functional systems of Apparent Physical Reality dealing with Matter and Energy by a variety of methodologies). Many of which theories, which are required to make the observations intelligible and/or discussible, read similarly to many Ancient Metaphysical Traditions.

Quantum Superposition ― Quantum superposition The Superposition principle of quantum mechanics. The principle of superposition states that if the world can be in any configuration, any possible arrangement of particles or fields, and if the world could also be in another configuration, then the world can also be in a state which is a superposition of the two, where the amount of each configuration that is in the superposition is specified by a complex number.

Quantum Tunneling

Quantum Vacuum ― A sea of potentiality that underlies everything, virtual particles bounce in and out of it. Patti Smith's Sea of Possibility.

Querent ― When the term Querent is used in the context of Divination, it generally refers to the person seeking a result from a Divination. Since almost all the other terms used in Divination terminology are based on Greek roots perhaps Ζητητής (Zetetās), meaning seeker or inquirer, would make a more consistent addition to the jargon of Divinatory processes? The person who performs the Divination is often called the Divinor, regardless of the methodology, though Seer, Oracle, Augur or Auguror, Sibyl, Pythoness, Pythia, Shaman, Völva, Witch, Prophet, Soothsayer, Medium, also occur, in fact many Traditions have their own specific terms for Officiants who perform general and/or specific Divinations.

The term Querent is derived from the Latin word Quaerentem, the present participle of Quaerere, with meanings in the range of: to seek, to look for, to ask, to question, to inquire, to strive for, to endeavor, to miss, to lack, and/or to desire.

See also: A general Divinatory System list with short definitions, Divination, Divinatory Systems, -mancy suffix, Μαντεία (Manteia), meaning divination, -scopy suffix, Mægikal Implements, Sacred Objects, Ceremonial Tools, Ritual Apparati, and/or Foci, and Τέλεσμα (Telesma) which is an Ægean 'umbrella' term indicating: any object consecrated for future utility, through specific religious, mægikal, and/or spiritual Werking, and/or through its own intrinsic nature.

Quicquidlibet ― is a noun pronounced as /quick'ki'd•lee'bet/ and consists of the classical Latin word 'quicquid libet, quodlibet' or 'quicquid, quidquid' for 'whatever,' which can also be a reduplication of 'quid' for 'anything' and 'libet' for 'it pleases.' It means one who does whatever one pleases, anything whatsoever.

Quiddity ― A Field of Study of or relating to the Essential Nature or Ultimate Form of anything, and/or that which makes something what it is.

Quieting of the Senses

Quimbanda ― When used in reference to a MetaPhysical Orientation as to Tradition, Culture or Preferred Flavour, is primarily defined, usually selfdefined by its members and/or adherents holding a Macumba WorldView and a desire to practice harmful Magic as a primary or critical parameter of their Spiritual Paradigm. Quimbanda represents harmful magick in the Macumba Tradition; which is approximately a Brazilian form of Vodoun and Santaria. Macumba is not in itself a religion but the umbrella for the two principal forms of African spirit worship in Brazil: Candomblé' and Umbanda. Macumba is sometimes used to refer to harmful magick, but that is more properly called Quimbanda.

Quintessential ― Refined to the Ultimate of Purity of Essence.

Quotables ― Quotables (that make us Smile!) are things that the famous, near-famous, and so forth have uttered, and that somehow got recorded in some more or less dependable manner, which capture something in a wordsmythe manner, which the utilizers of said Quotable find illuminating and/or amusing, but in any case totally on target.
