Spiritual, Philosophical and Religious Component

The purpose of this part of the TransPagan Consensus survey is to determine the approximate range of beliefs on various Spiritual, Philosophical and Religious issues within the Pagan Community.

Special Note:
In this survey subsection we are not repeating the identifying questions that are on the introductory page of the survey, other than the name, identifying phrase and eMail address. With this information we will be able to attach any supplementary sections that you submit to your completed Introductory section response. If you got to this part of the survey without seeing the introductory page, please return to it by clicking here:

TransPagan Consensus Survey Introduction

It may be useful to open Garden of Life's Definitions Page in a separate window for help on any of the terms in this survey. We have tried to make this survey and our definitions page as NeuroLinguistically Neutral as possible, but as modern physics teaches us, that only goes so far.
We also have position papers on some of the discussed issues, if you're interested in our take on them. We have tried to separate our own teachings, forms and techniques from the wording of the survey questions. We may provide links next to some of the questions, that you can click on if you want to see our comments on that issue.

I think that the Physical Plane Reality that we experience as Individuals is wholly or partially determined by what Humanity as a whole believes it to be, and that it is thus proper to refer to a Physical Consensus Reality.

On the one hand (clapping?), and within one context, the Going, the Way of the SandalStrap, the Only Dance There Is, is not only prime but solely important. On the other hand, and within a different context, the attainment of Ultimate Potential Perfection, the achievement of Identification with absolute Essence, getting the Well-Fed-Goose out of the Bottle alive without breaking the Bottle is the only meaningful issue. This is not paradoxical within an adequate paradigm. Now, if we could just hammer out an adequate paradigm.

Comments:

I believe that dying is the end phase of a process that is begun, if possible, with a natural letting-go of the things of this plane, and is properly celebrated by the survivors as a noble transition for the Individual. Certainly survivors that were close to him/her feel sorrow for the loss of further shared experiences on this plane with the dying Individual and for any pain which occurs, but the attitude toward the experience on the whole should be a positive one.

This Sacrament includes various Operations often referred to as Meditation, Centering and/or Grounding. This Sacrament may be performed by any Member to enhance Her/His Conscious Spiritual Evolution and improve Her/His functioning on any and all Levels of the Fields of Matter, Mind and/or Spirit. Some of the specific applications appertaining to this Sacrament may be described as Cleansing, such as when an Act and/or Process is performed by one or more Officiants or Celebrants with the intent of restructuring the Energy Flow of Persons, Places and/or Objects to be all in one direction for a Celebratory Working or other Purposes. In some circumstances there is the additional purpose of removing negative and/or mundane energy from Persons, Places and/or Objects.

I consider WORKING/WERKING to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Working or Werking may be an Act and/or Process specifically including an Effectuation of Will, performed by any Celebrant or group of Celebrants which focuses on particular and agreed upon Spiritual Goals. One type of Working is called The Great Work, which is focused on the achievement of the Ultimate Potential Perfection of one or more of the Individual and/or Individuals participating. Many instances of Working are directed toward some aspect of Conscious Spiritual Evolution. Celebratory Circles are the most fundamental type of Working. Such Circles are performed by a Group of Celebrants who join together to Commemorate a specific Holy Time and/or Work for a specific Goal or Goals. Another example of Workings are those of a Divinatory Nature.

I consider CATALYZATION to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Catalyzation may be an Act and/or Process performed by Officiants and Celebrants, with the intent of awakening within themselves and/or other Celebrants a further state of development. Officiation is a specific instance of the Sacrament of Catalyzation. Officiation occurs when any Individual is participating in conducting or leading any type of Celebratory Working, Circle, etc., and emphatically includes all aspects of preparation, coordination, focalization and facilitation of such occurrence. Any Celebrant may perform this Sacrament, consciously or unconsciously, to the extent of their experience, ability and intent. I consider COMMUNION to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Communion may be an Act and/or Process wherein a Merging with an Aspect or Aspects of the Divine Force is both symbolized and actualized. Communion is usually facilitated by one or more Officiants. For example: an Earth-Mother Communion, wherein a Merging with the Mother,on the part of the Celebrants is effectuated. In the SaltWater type of Earth-Mother Communion, the visible trappings of the procedure often consist of Consecrating the individual component parts, then mixing the Salt and Water in a Vessel, which is then ReConsecrated as a complete Substance, passed around the Circle, offering to all Celebrants, the option to Commemorate and Reaffirm the Relation of the Individual to as the Mother of the Human Species, in whatever manner they choose. Celebrants have the opportunity to Speak and Partake, simply to Partake or to Pass along the Chalice. SpringWater and Bread, Wine and Bread and/or other symbolic substances are also often used in various types of Communions.

Evocation performed at a Celebratory Working, ordinarily consists of an Officiant standing before an Altar, Evoking and Communicating with Her/His Eternal Self the Desire to Manifest a Facet of the Divine Essence, whether in a specific Tradition or the Facet that She/He will one day be. Manifestation generally occurs at a Celebratory Working and ordinarily consists of an Officiant Incarnating for the duration of the Circle, a Facet of the Divine Essence, whether from a particular Tradition or that Facet that She/He will one day continually be. In less formal settings or in everyday life this Showing Process may consist regardless of temporal duration, of existing as an Actualized Avatar, with the object of showing others that such a level of existence is possible on the material plane.

I consider BUILDING ENERGY to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Building Energy may be an Act and/or Process performed by all Celebrants for the effect of gathering and increasing Physical, Mental and Spiritual Energies to be directed at one or more specific Stated Goals. At a Celebratory Working this process is ordinarily led by one or more Officiants, proficient in Working with the Spiraling Energies. For example: when a Priestess Leads the Celebrants in the Dance of Life and Weaves the Built Up Energy into a Pattern that will Enhance and Multiply the Strength of that Energy, perhaps while making silent or verbal Affirmations along with various Symbolic Gestures Sacred to a Tradition. Dance, Chant, Artistic Creation, Song, Stimulation of the Senses, and Visualization are some of the Forms Building Energy may take.

At a Celebratory Working this process is ordinarily led by one or more Officiants, proficient in Working with the Emanating Energies. For example: when a Priest takes up a Bow after a Building Dance and fires an Arrow (in a Symbolically ascertained Direction) to Direct and Propel the Energy to the Stated Goals of the Celebratory Working, while making silent or verbal Affirmations along with various Symbolic Gestures Sacred to a Tradition. I consider CHAOSIZATION to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Chaosization may be an Act and/or Process emphasizing the value of Play as a Spiritual Growth Tool. Spiritual Growth is often a smooth gradual type of growth, however many Traditions realize that sometimes it is beneficial to attempt to "trick" ourselves into reaching for more than would be thought possible within a normal context. Chaosization is usually focused on one Individual and entered into by a group of Individuals willing to assist that person. Chaosization is ordinarily coordinated by an Officiant and has the Purpose of enabling the Individual upon which it is focused to surmount plateau difficulties and promote Spiritual Growth. The method of Chaosization is to expose the Individual, to various seemingly unrelated stimuli with the desired effect of forcing Her/His Eternal self to push the Boundaries of Consciousness into hithertofore unexplored territories. For all of the utilization of acts and/or processes, that might normally be considered frivolous, Chaosization should not be undertaken lightly. The effects of any utilization of "Trickster" type energies upon: the Individual focused upon; any and all persons for whom that Individual has physical, financial, emotional, mental or spiritual responsibility; and the other participants must be considered. Chaosization involves Creating an Experiential Field of Potential from which strange beauties may emerge.

I consider CHRYSALIZATION to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Chrysalization may be an Act and/or Process usually involving a large group of Individuals, coordinated by a panel of Officiants, ordinarily focused on one Individual to aid them in a Spiritual Passage of Attainment. Chrysalization must be requested by the Individual, and agreed to by all involved. Chrysalization enfolds the Individual being Chrysalized in a saturation experience and includes exposure to and immersion in a particular set of Stimuli. It is generally made up of a series of interrelated Experiences over a significant time, determined by the length of time it is possible for the central Individual to be isolated from their normal context. It is essential that such Experiences derive from extremely well researched data, whether from some particular extant Tradition, the product of Archetypal Construction or some combination thereof. Each component part of the Chrysalization must center on the Goal or Goals of the Individual upon whom the Sacrament is focused. The accomplished result accelerates the Spiritual Growth of the focus Individual and often of many if not all of the other participants.

I consider AFFIRMATION OF ORDINATION to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Affirmation of Ordination may be that it is an acknowledgment that a particular Individual Aspirant is Authorized to perform any combination of Officiant functions within that Tradition. For example: to Officiate at the Tradition's Celebrations, Workings and/or Functions; to Administer the Tradition's Sacraments that require or utilize Officiation; and to perform any and/or all of the other functions, duties, rights, responsibilities and/or operations recommended by that Tradition. The Affirmation of Ordination usually includes a specifically designed Working to indicate the Tradition's Affirmation of Ordination of that Individual as an Officiant, often as a Celebratory Circle. True Ordination occurs within the Individual, however, a Tradition may Affirm and Certify the Accomplished Fact. I consider ACCREDITATION to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Accreditation may be characterized as being effectuated by the Formal Written and Archived Declaration acknowledging Spiritual Value of Persons, Places, Objects, Ideas, Systems and/or Processes. The Sacrament of Accreditation includes: the various preliminary phases of such process such as the suggestion and/or promotion of anything specific to be Accredited; the determination of Accreditation by the Tradition; and any announcement and/or archive of Formal Written Declaration of such determination. Accreditation must be delineated in the most precise wording possible. Frequently Accreditation is effectuated by issuing Statements of Accreditation as to the Spiritual Value of, for example various Cultural works and Artifacts: Literature, Visual Arts, Theatre, Poetry, Personality and so forth. Systems of categorization may be developed for processing these Statements, with an emphasis on clarity. The Establishment and Creation of Charters are a special case of Accreditation within a Tradition. The recognition of Individuals and/or any and/or all of their Contributions to the Æternal Conversation of Civilization is an important instance of Accreditation. For Accreditations revolving around Individuals, categories may be developed to simplify the process of referring to such Accreditations but should in no case be allowed to obscure the Essential Individuation of such Persons.

The Sacrament of Passage usually includes a specifically designed Celebration or Rite of Passage to acknowledge the Tradition's Affirmation that the Individual has made the transition to the lifecycle stage indicated. The timing of such Celebrations are not determined by physical ages but by the Individuals actual attainment of that stage. Some of the Passages that might be Celebrated are: conception, maturation in the womb, birth, walking, learning to read, prepubescence, pubescence, adolescence, young adulthood, adulthood, peak of adulthood, wisdom, detachment and so forth.

The Sacrament of Joining usually includes a specifically designed Celebration to acknowledge the Tradition's Affirmation that the Individuals have attained such Joining. Formal Written Declaration of a Tradition's Affirmation of Joining for Individuals may be issued and/or archived, often upon completion of a Working acknowledging such. This declaration is referred to as a Certificate of Joining. Neither the Certificate nor Celebration should be called a Joining, as that term properly indicates the actual experience of the Individuals involved. After a Joining, the Individuals are Joined in the Eyes of the Tradition, and henceforth are to be treated as a Household.

I consider SWAN SONG to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Swan Song may be an Act and/or Process performed by and for a Celebrant, which ordinarily consists of a pre-enactment of the Celebrant's desired Memorial Service which is intended to be held after the death of Her/His current physical body. Such Act may be scheduled at the Celebrant's desire, however, it should not be held until there is a reasonable expectation that She/He is near the end of Her/His current incarnation cycle. It should ordinarily be done only once for each Celebrant, and should be as accurate a portrayal as possible.

I consider ASSISTING IN THE TRANSLATION OF PLANES to be one of the Pagan Sacraments. In a preliminary description Assisting in the Translation of Planes may be an Act and/or Process to aid an Individual in the navigation of the various levels between the Planes of Existence, after passage from the material plane. Such Act is usually performed by Celebrants led by one or more Officiants, at the request of a Member and/or an Individual or Individuals from the Member's Household, which ordinarily consists of performing a specifically designed Celebratory Ritual.
